What is a Men's Shed?
Men’s Sheds are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, woodworking and DIY for example, but for groups of men to enjoy together.
They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun, providing an opportunity for men in the Burley in Wharfedale area to connect socially, make new friends, share and learn new skills and knowledge, and enjoy tea, coffee (£1), and in our case, Bacon Rolls! (£3).

The
Burley Men's Shed group meets in the Bowls Pavilion, usually at 10am on the first and the third Wednesday of each month.

  • The Burley-in-Wharfedale Shed has now been running for 14 month's, we have had a steady flow of interest and we currently have a regular attendance of around 25 members. We are still using the local bowls club for our meetings and have organised various events in and around the village. Our main focus now is to build our own shed which will offer both a placed to continue our meetings/social events and also a workshop so we can share and learn new skills.

  • We have submitted a pre planning application and have recently requested the services of a local architect and planning consultant to provide us with some advice and detailed drawings in preparation for us to submit a full planning application. We would like to thank the Community Chest for the very kind funding, this will shortly be used to help towards the above costs.
