25-9-24: York Cold War Bunker
Really interesting visit to this English Heritage site, dating back to the 1960's, uniquely preserved as it was when staffed by the Royal Observer Corps, being part of the UK wide nuclear early warning network.
Our guides for the tour were very experienced, and did their best to provide us with plenty of historical perspective of what it was like to be contained under ground in places like this 24-7 during the many years of the "Cold War".
On the way back to Burley we stopped off for lunch at the Poppleton Social Cafe which was a real hidden gem!
