15-10-2025: Talk- Yorkshire Air Ambulance
For the Shed's middle of October meeting, we were given a talk by Mick Smith, a Burley in Wharfedale based volunteer fund raiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Mick talked to the group about the history of the Air Ambulance, how it is funded, the fleet of helicopters they use, how each helicopter is crewed for an emergency. There was a lot of interaction with many questions being asked.
We would like to say a big thank you to Mick for his visit and talk.
At the meeting Shed Members helped raise a £99.36 donation for the Air Ambulance.
Claire Roberts from Yorkshire Air Ambulance sent the Shed a thank you email saying that :-
"Yorkshire Air Ambulance would like to say a heartfelt thank you for having our volunteer, Mick, come talk to you about our work. We are also thankful for the donation of £99.36 that was raised whilst he was there. Your donation really is a life saver. It helps us provide a rapid response emergency service to 5 million people. On average, our crews respond to around 1,700 incidents each year-that’s nearly five missions a day across Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent Charity and receives no direct government funding. As such, we rely on the generosity of people like you to help save lives 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Thanks to generous donations like yours we have recently expanded our fleet to include a 3rd helicopter to act as a cover for when one of our two helicopters are down for maintenance. This means we will have greater operational availability and is another reason why your donation is so important to us, our patients, and the people of Yorkshire".
