05-11-2025: Talk- Mosques, Mountains and Plov. A journey through the "stans" of Central Asia
Louise le Marquand gave an interesting, informative and illustrative talk about the holiday she spent with her husband Duncan in the "stans" of Central Asia in June 2024.
This talk took our members on a fascinating journey through 4 of the “stans” of Central Asia – Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - all of which were on the Silk Road. We saw the glorious Islamic architecture of legendary cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara and the ruins of ancient cities in the desert. There were mountains, lakes, canyons and deserts. And finally hats!
