16-04-2025: CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy)
Duncan Ault, our treasurer and chair of finance on Burley Parish Council enlightened members about the CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) money of approximately £1.3 million coming in nine stages into the Parish Council Funds over the next 5 or so years from the new village housing development The spend cannot be made to support revenue items or repay loans and is in addition to the annual precept levied on residents. The money should be spent mainly on infrastructure projects to benefit the residents of the village and must be spent or pledged within 5 years of receipt.
After outlining the spend and amounts pledged so far on projects including public buildings improvements, sports facilities, footpath improvements and other capital projects he then asked members their views on how they felt the remaining funds of nearly £800,000 should be spent. As expected there were many ideas from members but the emphasis was on parking, speed restriction measures and improved walking facilities in and around the village. Some offered their help with a speed watch campaign on Main Street.
