19-08-2026: Talk - 7 Days on the Road from Comfort to Conflict
At the Shed's middle of August meeting, members were treated to an interesting and compelling talk by Karl Lavery from Burley, who embarked on a humanitarian aid road trip to Kharkiv in Eastern Ukraine to deliver much needed aid to the front-line medics there.
Working with guidance from the Direct Aid to Ukraine Group, in April 2026 he drove an old 4 x 4 Volvo SUV he had acquired, to the front-line loaded with aid items including spinal boards, dressings, suturing kits, knee and ankle braces, splints, sleeping bags and much more. His journey across Europe to Kharkiv took him seven days, on arrival the aid was handed over to the hospital medics and also his vehicle, which would stay in Ukraine, was handed over to front line medics to be used as a field ambulance for the recovery and treatment of wounded soldiers.
We would like to thank Karl for coming to the Shed and giving our members such an inspirational talk.

Finally we would like to say a big thank you to all the members who helped set up the Library for the meeting and tidied up at the end.
