A Group within a Group
Whilst the ongoing task of the Trustees is the time consuming need to obtain the neccessary permissions and whatever in order to obtain our very own location for the Burley Men's Shed, a few of us members have been wondering if there was anything we could be getting on with in the meanwhile, as that process might well take months.
A couple of us thought there was maybe an opening for a sub-group of the Shed to form a function that would provide villagers a means of displaying their photographs to the rest of the world, rather than just sitting idly on the various social media sites that abound. At a push, we could run the operation from home, or from anywhere with a decent internet connection and at a reasonable hourly fee. Having put out a few feelers we were rewarded with several responses from members who's former hobbies included photography, and indeed was even their career, so we set up a very informal meeting to discuss the matter further. After seeking and receiving permission to go ahead with the project we then took a serious look at what we wanted to do - which was not to merely copy content from various social media sites, but to provide our very own platform on which to display the work. This would entail our oh-so-predictabley named Photo Group receiving the image/s from our viewers, doing some basic editing in order to reduce load times and standardising image sizes, which would then be passed on the the Village Website to display onscreen, without all the clutter and name-gathering of you know who. |
But we wanted to do more than that, and be selective on the type and quality of the images displayed. We chose to take a more focused approach by not displaying photos that are of fleeting interest and are only appreciated by those directly involved in the photo itself, such as groups of people, holiday snaps of parties, pets of all shapes and sizes, family portraits and so on. You get the drift.
What we're interested in is displaying something a little better that 'a snap' - we're looking to feature photos of 'things' that will be of far more interest than that other stuff. Something that will be pleasing to the eye, and very likely will have taken more that a couple of seconds to create. It's only when we seriously took a peek at some of the work produced by our very own villagers that we realised there is a bountiful amount of material out there that deserves more respect, and to that end we have decided that every villagers' photos will display the name of whoever took the photo - without exception. And to even up the compliment, we'll also display, separately, those involved in the selection and editing process - now everone will be able to put a name to a face, because we'll have their photo on display as well. We're obviously going to start off small, but within a couple of weeks we'll be giving you the option to have a team member enhance your photo/s (or not - your choice); and we'll be helping you to do your own enhancing shortly after. Oh, and yes - we're in the process of devising a form for you to contact the group and include your photo/s - should be ready by this coming weekend. |
So, when your photo has been received and then edited it will be passed on to the Village Website for display - providing you added your name (in full) on the form.
